Jane M. Anderson spends as much time as possible on the water, working and sailing on boats. She grew up sailing Sunfish and Rhodes 19s on Long Island Sound, and later lived aboard a 42' Pearson ketch for 10 years, cruising up and down the East Coast from Florida to Rhode Island. The technology inherent in boats fascinates her, and she can imagine few things more fun than cruising on a boat while continuously designing, monitoring, and maintaining the boat's systems. Many of Jane's articles discuss equipment she has used and situations she has encountered while on the water.

Jane's current project is a 40' Colvic Craft British-built sailboat, which she purchased in 2006 and is rebuilding from a bare hull, creating new electrical, navigational, plumbing and other systems along with a redesigned galley, new type of head, and bright varnished woodwork. She bought the boat complete with a full-sized, upright piano on board, and although she ultimately had to remove that piano due to a cracked and unrepairable sound board, she plans to replace it with an electronic keyboard -- she likes being known as "the piano boat person" around the marina. She's also the person to whom her boating friends turn when they're having electrical problems on their vessels, but she confesses that she's a terrible marine plumber.

In addition to boats, Jane's articles often focus on health insurance and medical issues. She has a special interest in dietary subjects and information on food intolerances, particularly gluten.
